#Local Elections in the US#
Elections in the United States could not occur without local citizens serving as election judges at polling places. Judges must be registered voters and they take an oath to uphold both the national and state laws that ensure the integrity of elections. At the age of 18, a Consulate Guangzhou Officer served as an election judge in her local community in the state of Illinois.
Election judges work to keep polling places accessible and help voters with special needs receive reasonable accommodations, if necessary, to keep elections fair and free for all. Regardless of disability, gender identity, homelessness, or English ability, Americans are entitled to vote.
Recounting her experience as an election judge, the Consulate Guangzhou colleague said, “The end of the night is very exciting, as election judges account for all ballots and deliver them in a secure manner to the central counting authority in their district to await official results.”
