Idioms: Strike Out

The idiom in the graphic below comes from baseball. In this sport, the batter has three chances to hit the baseball. If he or she fails, it is considered a strike out.

Strikeouts are common in baseball, and probably for this reason, the idiom has found its way into our daily lives.
